Ok, ok, I know!

I know I haven't been posting like I should.  It's been crazy busy with the kids after school activities and then Thanksgiving.  My dad actually came to Toronto and I spent a lot of quality time with him.  Basically I have been doing good at not gaining any weight.  I have not been working out as much as I should the past couple of weeks.  Mostly because I'm running around with the kids, cleaning the house or cooking.

This past week I have been doing the Go Fit Gals Go-Fit 21 Plan.  They have a bootcamp going on now and I signed up for it.  As with any Go Fit Gals plan it's pretty simple, eat clean and train dirty.  I've been doing ok with eating clean except for a little cake on my daughter's birthday, but working out has gone out of the window.

I will try to do better next week with the plan and my posting updates.  My dad has gone back to Chicago and the after school activities have stopped for now.

It's been tough

It's really been tough trying to stick to a plan lately.  So busy with the kids and getting familiar with Toronto.  I've decided that I will begin anew next year.  The challenge now is not to gain a bunch of weight over the holidays.  My dad may be coming to visit around American Thanksgiving, so I know I will have to cook a big meal then.

I feel good where I'm at now actually.  I know I have lost some inches because things that were tight are fitting better. I think it's the constant climbing up and down three flights of stairs in our house every day. I also still work out 5-6 days a week.  There are days lately when I lack motivation, but I get up and work out anyway. After the work out I feel so much better. My favorite workouts are from Fitness Blender and Go Fit Gals. I walk almost everywhere and taking the kids to and from school we have to walk over a bridge that has a steep incline.Still getting my 10,000 steps a day!

So I'm continuing to eat healthy with the occasional treat and work out. I guess that's the plan for now.

Recipe of the week: I've been trying some new recipes and one of my favorites lately is Lentil, Sweet Potato and Kale Stew.  The recipe is vegan, gluten-free and so simple to make. It is a healthy and delicious twist on comfort food.

Hello..It's me!

Yes,yes I know I've been gone way too long.  Sorry, this move to Toronto has taken a lot out of me.  The only way I'll move long distance again is if we move back to Chicago. 

I've been attempting to eat as clean as possible and keep up with the workouts.  The house we live in now actually has 3 floors and a basement.  I go up and down the stairs at least 50 times a day. I weighed myself at my mom's house when we visited Chicago last week and I'm the same weight the last time I weighed myself several months ago.

Starting next week I will start talking with you again about what I'm doing. Maybe by then I will have a plan in place. I've been kind of winging it since moving to Toronto. Thanks for your patience.

Gettin' Lean In 2014 Update: Week 27

I will be MIA for a while because we will be without internet at the new house in Toronto for a few weeks.  Week 27 was a busy, stressful week.  Even though I wanted to move to Toronto from Vancouver to be in a larger city and to be closer to family in Chicago, I will admit that it's a bit scary Vancouver is what I have known for 2.5 years. The challenge will be not to eat my feelings. For workouts I have a ton of PDF workouts from the Go Fit Gals I can do without equipment. Also I will be able to get Youtube on my phone.  The screen is tiny, but I have used it for workouts before.

Gettin' Lean In 2014 Update: Week 26

Not much to report.  Noticing I'm not as bloated during Aunt Flo as usual.  I stop using artificial  sweeteners in my coffee and tea and think that has made a difference.  I did a few workouts last week.  Mainly I walked a lot.  Mostly from room to room packing up stuff.

My milia has gotten a lot better.  You know what has worked the best?!  Several times a day I put a hot towel on my face.  I leave it there until it gets cold. After that I put tea tree oil on my face.  Before bed I put Garnier Ultra-Lift Cream.  The only reason I use that cream is because it has retinol in it and I had some samples.   I notice the milia are flatter and there are less of them. 

I will be glad when we are finally in Toronto. Looking forward to settling down to our new life.

No workouts scheduled for week 27.  Still packing!

Recipe of the week:
Go Fit Gals approved Mango Margaritas
2C frozen mango
juice from 1 orange
2 oz clear tequila
1 oz triple sec
2-4 ice cubes
Blend until desired consistency.
Serves 2

I'm going to need several after this move! A great drink for the 4th of July celebration too!

Gettin' Lean In 2014 Update: Week 25

Easier said than done!

Week 25 was busier than ever!  Didn't get many workouts in, but was on my feet a lot and got 70,000 steps last week. It's been difficult to find any time for myself because of the teachers' strike.  My diet has been 80% clean. I did relieve stress with some cake last week.

My skin is the thing that's bothering me the most.  I have these tiny bumps on my face called milia. It's different than acne.  They are said to caused by keratin getting trapped beneath the outer layer of the skin and then forming a cyst. I've tried exfoliating, Listerine, tea tree oil, baking name it, I've tried it. 

I've never had problems with my skin.  Even as a teenager I never got acne. So this is distressing to me.  I'm already stressed because of the move.  I think I will have to locate a dermatologist in Toronto if this milia continues.  I'll give it another couple of months.  I've read that it could go away on its own.

Gettin' Lean In 2014 Update: Weeks 23 & 24

Ok I haven't been very good with the updates. I'm sorry.  It's a combination of lack of motivation, being super busy packing for Toronto, my ankle injury, oven and dishwasher dying and the kids getting out of school early due to the teachers' strike.  Also my face has broken out into these little bumps. They have been a pain.  I've been trying all sorts of things the past two weeks. I may have found the solution.  I will write more about it next week, hopefully. Yes, it has been a couple of busy weeks!  

I really haven't stop trying to eat clean.  That's always the plan, but eating every 2-3 hours some days goes right out the window.  If I'm busy I will forget to eat.  And sometimes if I remember to eat I'm not hungry. My workouts have changed.  Been doing more Yoga, Pilates and upper body workouts to try to stay off of the ankle as much as possible. I also started doing meditation, but now that the kids are out of school due to the teachers' strike it has been difficult to get that in.

Workout schedule for week 25 is basically much like the last couple of weeks. Yoga, Pilates, walking and upper body training. One upper body workout I've been doing is 10 Minute Workout to Tighten Arm Jiggle.  This workout is no joke!
